There are many hikable areas around the Portland-Salem Metropolitan areas.  The Camp Adair Pond nature hike is a well maintained trail with an abundance of wildlife viewing opportunities.

The Luckiamute Landing State Natural Area occupies about 900 acres of river flood plain in Benton and Polk counties.

The Arboretum is a popular gateway to explore the further reaches of McDonald Forest and has provided an outdoor teaching lab for generations of both children and adults.

Rock Climbing

There are many rock climbing opportunities in the Willamette Valley.  Just a few minutes outside of Monmouth, in Falls City, waterfall bouldering is a popular attraction.
