Bicycle Laws and Safety Tips
Our officers will be conducting proactive contacts with bicyclists in the coming weeks. We have received multiple complaints of bicyclists not obeying traffic laws and Monmouth ordinances. Our goal is to educate our citizens in order to keep bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists safe. Oregon law states every person riding a bicycle upon a public way is subject to the provisions applicable to and has the same rights and duties as the driver of any other vehicle (ORS 814.400). This includes stopping at stop signs, signaling turns and riding with traffic, not against it.
