COVID-19 Parks Update:
Parks may be used from one hour before sunrise, until an hour after sunset.
City park facilities, including playground areas, are now open subject to 6-foot physical distancing requirements. For your safety and the safety of others, please abide by the following Oregon Health Authority guidelines when visiting City park facilities:
• Maintain 6 foot distancing between people not from the same family.
• User group sizes must not exceed 10 people.
• Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
• Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, if soap and water are not readily available (picnic tables, playground equipment, and other park amenities are not sanitized by the City)
• Wear cloth face coverings when appropriate.
The splash fountain located in Main Street Park and park drinking fountains are closed until further notice.
The City is not making park reservations for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Restrooms and drinking fountains are available a week prior to Easter until October 1st. The Splash Fountain is open Memorial Day Weekend until October 1st. These times could vary, depending on weather conditions.
Dogs are currently permitted in all parks on a leash. There are dog bags available in Gentle Woods Park, Madrona Park and Main Street Park. If your dog would like to be off-leash we now have a Dog Park located within the Monmouth Recreational Park.
Monmouth has sport activities for children of just about all ages through the Central Youth Sports
and the YMCA
Community Parks provide a variety of structured, active, passive, and informal recreation opportunities for all age groups. These park are generally larger in size and serve a wide base of residents. Typically they include facilities that attract people from the entire community, such as sports fields, pavilions, and picnic shelters, water features, and natural areas, along with restroom facilities and parking. Our Community Parks also contain shelters that are available to rent for group picnics and events.
Gentle Woods Park is a wonderful community park situated along the middle fork of Ash Creek among a mature stand of oak and ash trees. This park has a large picnic pavilion that can be rented for group events. There are multiple barbecue stands located in the park. The park's playground includes a large swing, twirly slide, a climbing rope pyramid, spring riders, a spinning toy, and two diggers. Other park amenities include picnic tables, a horse shoe pit, benches, restroom facilities, along with two drinking fountains available for park users. Location - 600 Olive Way E.
Madrona Park is the City's newest and largest community park. This regional park has a picnic shelter available to rent. Park amenities include ADA accessible paths, an arboretum, restroom facilities, and drinking fountain. The playground includes swings, a teeter totter, spring riders, and various climbing structures. There is also a spacious grassy area suitable for impromptu neighborhood baseball, football, or soccer games. Location - 1521 Madrona St. E.
Main Street Park is located in downtown Monmouth is the crown jewel of the City's park system. This park is home to an outdoor amphitheater used often for music and theater performances. Kids of all ages love to get wet and play in the splash pad fountain. The park's gazebo is available to rent for group picnics and events. This park has a nice selection of playground structures for kids of all ages. If you’re cycling through town, there is a bike repair station located just north of the park's restroom facilities. This park has numerous picnic tables and benches located throughout. If you've come to relax, you will find shade under trees, or sun in the open grassy areas. Location - 120 Main St. E.
Neighborhood Parks are located within walking distance of most users. These parks provide access to basic recreation activities for all ages and include facilities such as playgrounds, basketball courts, lawn areas, picnic tables and benches.
Cherry Lane Park is a large neighborhood park whose playground includes a swing set, slide, and climbing rope pyramid. Other park amenities include a picnic table, bench, shade trees, and a large open lawn area. Location - 498 Ackerman St. W.
Monmouth Recreational Park is a large multi-purpose park with widely used amenities. Two baseball fields, tennis courts, a large dog park, restroom facilities and the city's only skate park make this park a popular stop. The Dog Park has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs. The dog park is ADA accessible. Other amenities include a pet friendly drinking fountain, benches, and a few dog agility toys. The Skate Park is 3500 square feet of ramps, rails and platforms. Benches are available for onlookers. Two Tennis Courts are available for use seven days a week. Two Ball fields, when not being used by Central Youth Sport sanctioned events, are available for use by the general public. Location - 401 Hogan Rd. N.
Winegar Park sometimes referred to as "Purple Park", is a neighborhood park with great amenities. The park is divided by a small creek. One side of the creek has a half-court basketball hoop. The other side has mature shade trees, a picnic table, bench, open grassy area, and a play structure. The play structure mimics a boat, and includes a slide, climbing features, and a balance beam. Location - 589 Ecols St. N.
Mini Parks are typically smaller than 1-acre and provide passive or limited recreation opportunities. These parks provide basic neighborhood recreation amenities, such as playgrounds, sport courts, benches, and lawn areas.
La Mesa Park is a secluded mini park surrounded by homes. This park has a half-court basketball hoop, picnic table, bench as well as shade trees. The playground includes a swings, slide and a metal climbing structure. Location - 1059 Bentley St. E.
Marr Park is a quiet mini park situated at the west edge of town. Amenities include a picnic table, bench and horse shoe pits. The playground has a slide, swing set, and climbing toy. Location - 799 Jackson St. W.
Southgate Park is a secluded mini park on the south edge of town. This park has a half-court basketball hoop, picnic table, bench as well as shade trees and an open grassy area. The playground includes a swing set, slide, spring rider and a metal climbing structure. Location - 501 Southgate Dr.
Whitesell Park located just north of Western Oregon University has a half-court basketball hoop, picnic table, bench, and open grassy area. The playground has a slide, swing set, and climbing toy. Location - 300 Catherine Ct.
