The Monmouth Senior Center was started in 1974 by the seniors of Monmouth, to serve the older adults in Monmouth and the surrounding areas. From a modest beginning it has grown steadily though the years and is now the heart of providing a friendly, positive place for more than 300 members to gather for classes, activities, and trips as well as services and resources that meet the needs of older adults. There is no charge to come to the Center. The only fees are for some classes and trips.
The Senior Meal Site is located at the Monmouth Senior Center. Meals on Wheels are delivered weekday or there is seating in the dining room. Frozen meals can be purchased for the weekends. Suggestion donation is $3.00 per meal. A reservation is needed at least two days in advance for each hot meal. This gives time to provide you with your entree choice. You must be 60 or older to qualify for a meal.
The center is also available for community events on an hourly rental basis. Rules & Rates are in the sidebar to the right of the page. The center is in its own building, which was completed in 1987, with volunteer labor and donated supplies. Through the years, as the members have increased, so has the building. Two more addition's were built, one in 1994 and the other in 2004. We are currently in the process of raising $600,000 for an 3452 square foot expansion project. Fundraisers are being held each month and grants are being applied for.
The Friends of the Monmouth Senior Center help support the Center. You can become a member for only $20 a year. Contact the Center at 503-838-5678 for further information.
